Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse was host to the next stint of the Spring Carnival Racing as the Group Two Danehill Stakes (1400m) took to the track as just one of the features on Saturday.

Punters who went with the slightly out favourite runners saw their punts rewarded through Sportsbet, proving the hot favourites don’t always deliver!

Soul, trained by Peter Snowden, defeated a quality nine-horse field to claim the 2010 Danehill Stakes win.

The lightly raced three-year-old asserted himself as an emerging star of the spring, taking his career tally to two wins from four starts.

It was a highly superb victory from the son of Commands which raced up the straight perfectly as jockey Mark Zahra pushed him out for the race.

The gelding beat the impressive Buffering by three-quarters of a length into second, with General Truce a short neck back in third.

Blue Diamond stakes winner Star Witness headed into the 2010 Danehill Stakes as the favourite at $3.70 for the win with

The Starcraft colt was a late scratch after suffering a late knock, which is not expected to have made a huge impact on the runner for the rest of the spring.

Snowden has pencilled in a spring goal of the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on October 30 for the 2010 Danehill Stakes winner, although reiterated nothing is confirmed.

Also taking place on Saturday was the Group Two Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) which saw defending Melbourne Cup winner Shocking defeat a quality field, the Group Two Let’s Elope Stakes (1400m), the Group Three Bobbie Lewis Quality (1200m) and five other great races.
